Ahsaas Channa is an Indian actress who primarily works for the Hindi entertainment industry. In 2018, she came into the limelight after playing Richa in the Indian comedy-drama series, Girls Hostel.

Ahsaas Channa was born on August 5, 1999 (age 25, as of 2024) in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Soon after completing her primary schooling, she attended Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan’s A.H. Wadia High School. Soon after her higher secondary education, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts in psychology at Mumbai University. Fascinated by acting since childhood, Ahsaas was only four when she stepped into the film industry.

Hailing from Jalandhar, Punjab, Ahsaas was raised in a well-doing Punjabi family. Her father, Iqbal Bahadur Singh Channa, is a film producer. Meanwhile, her mother, Kulbir Badesron, is a television actress. Additionally, she has an older sister, Mahek Channa.

Relationships/Affairs

Initially, it was rumoured that Ahsaas Channa was dating comedian and actor Kumar Varun. In 2020, Ahsaas Channa’s elder sister, Mahek Channa, shared a birthday post on her Instagram handle, which confirmed fans’ speculations. Nevertheless, in 2022, in a Question-and-answer story, Ahsaas squashed the rumours and mentioned that she had not dated Varun and he was only a good friend of hers.

Besides Kumar Varun, Ahsaas was also rumoured to be dating several entertainment personalities including Ritvik Sahore, Akash Thapa, and Munawar Faruqi. However, in 2022, she denied all the dating rumours and mentioned that she was single.

Film

While Ahsaas was only three, she used to mimic and recreate the scenes from Sholay. Her mother, Kulbir Badseron, a prominent face in the entertainment industry, acknowledged her interest in acting and took her for auditions. After bagging several advertisements, Ahsaas made her film debut with the Hindi film Vaastu Shastra in which she played Rohan, Sushmita Sen’s son. 

In 2006, she played Rohan in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. In the same year, she played Ranveer in the film Aryan. Subsequently, in 2007 she played Ashu in the Hindi language film, My Friend Ganesha. Later, she made her appearance as a child actor in many films including Love Ka Tadka (2009), Phoonk 2 (2010), and 340. In 2017, Ahsaas made her film debut as an actor in the Hindi-language film Rukh in which she played Shruti.

Television

Besides films, Ahsaas has appeared in several TV shows. In 2008, she made her television debut with the Zee TV show Kasamh Se, in which she played young Ganga Walia. Later, in 2012, she worked in the television shows Madhubala: Ek Ishq Ek Junoon and Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev. In 2013, she worked in the Indian sitcom Oye JJassie,wherein she played Ayesha Malhotra. Subsequently, Ahsaas has worked in several episodic shows, including Savdhaan India (2012), Crime Patrol Dastak (2014), Crime Patrol (2016), MTV Big F (2017), and CID (2018).

Web Series

In 2018, Ahsaas made her digital debut with the Sony LIV series Girls Hostel, wherein she played Richa. Later, in 2019, she worked in the popular series Kota Factory, in which she played Shivangi. In the same year, she appeared in Hostel Daze, in which she played Akansha. Subsequently, Ahsaas has appeared in lead roles in several web series, including The Interns (2020), Modern Love Mumbai (2022), Mismatched 2 (2022), and Half CA (2023).

Controversy

Legal Notice By Ahsaas’ Father against Karan Johar

In 2005, when Ahsaas was only seven, she went to New York for the shooting of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. However, this landed her and her family in controversy. The Times of India reported that as soon as Ahsaas and her mother flew to New York, his father sent a legal notice against her mother, Kulbir Badesron and Karan Johar for taking Ahsaas out of the country without his consent.

While Ahsaas was six, her parents were separated and her custody was with her mother. In addition to the legal notice, her father, Iqbal Singh Channa, also accused her mother, Kulbir of leaving him due to his financial constraints. Moreover, initially, Ahsaas’ mother was also accused of hiding her gender in the media and dressing her like a boy.

Hence, owing to this, Ahsaas decided to take a sabbatical break from acting.

• While she worked as a child artiste, no one was aware of her gender. Nevertheless, it was her father’s legal notice that revealed that she was a girl.

Hence, to share her journey and how she tackles her anxiety, she initiated a podcast, Dear Teenage Me.
