The Namma Metro in Bengaluru gets its first driverless train that will be operating on the yellow line. The metro comprises six coaches that arrived on Wednesday. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) stated that the order consisted of 216 cars, of which 90 will operate on the yellow line.
At present, Bengaluru has two metro lines. The first is the purple metro line, and the other is the green metro line that runs between Challaghatta to Kadugodi and Nagasandra to Silk Board, respectively. Soon it will have a third one, which is the Yellow Metro line running from RV Road to Bommasandra. Another metro line in Bengaluru city will help people travel without traffic and reach their desired destinations on time. Bengaluru is one of those cities that is known for its heavy traffic and rush at peak times.
The Yellow Metro Line will have 16 metro stations under it. Its construction started in 2017 and the metro line was supposed to be inaugurated in January 2023 but unfortunately got pushed to July 2024. The coaches of the driverless metro for Bengaluru were manufactured in China and then shipped to Chennai to a depot named Hebbagodi in South Bengaluru, the IT hub of the Electronic City.
However, Bengaluru Metro is not the first to be driverless; Delhi Metro introduced driverless trains back in 2021. Pink Line and Magenta Line still operate in driverless metro trains, and soon, Golden Line will operate with driverless trains between Aerocity and Tughlakabad once they are ready to run.
