Dr. Vikas Divyakirti was born on December 26, 1973 (age 50 years; as of 2024) in Bhiwani, Haryana. Divyakirti’s father was a professor of Hindi literature at a college affiliated with Maharishi Dayanand University located in Rohtak, Haryana, while his mother was a school teacher in Bhiwani, Haryana. Vikas Divyakirti is one of the most successful teachers in India, and his major source of earnings is from teaching. He has two brothers; the eldest brother is in the United States and is a software engineer, while the elder brother is a DIG at the CBI.

Dr. Vikas Divyakirti completed his schooling at a Hindi medium school, Saraswati Shishu Mandir. He pursued his graduation in Bachelor in Commerce (Hons.) from Zakir Husain Delhi College. Later, he decided to switch courses and chose a Bachelor of Arts degree in history at the University of Delhi. For post-graduation, he chose Hindi literature and secured the second rank in the first year at Zakir Husain At Delhi College, he further migrated for his final year to Hindu College, Delhi and completed a Master of Arts in 1995. 

Vikas Divyakirti also has a Bachelor of Laws from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi and a Master of Philosophy in Hindi Literature from the University of Delhi.

Vikas Divyakirti completed his training at the Institute of Secretariat Training and Management. He also served at the Department of Official Language in the Ministry of Home Affairs as a section officer in New Delhi.

In 1999, he resigned from the post and founded the Drishti IAS Coaching Institute in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi.

• Dr. Vikas Divyakirti’s father wanted him to become a politician, so he became a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidharthi Parishad (ABVP).
• During his first year of college, he became popular and actively participated in the national agitation against the Mandal Commission formed under the former prime minister of India, Moraraji Ranchhodji Desai.
• He did several odd jobs due to the financial crisis while he was in his first year of college. He also worked at a printing press and started a small business with his brother.
• He also contested and won the Resident Welfare Association election in his locality in Delhi.
• He is the author of a book, ‘Nibandh Drishti.’
• Viskas is the editor of the Current Affairs monthly magazine ‘Drishti Current Affairs Today.’
• In 1999, when he started Drishti IAS Coaching Institute, he gained fame and appreciation for his teaching style. He revealed that he was rejected for the post of  Hindi lecturer at Shivaji College, Delhi University. In the beginning, he struggled and managed to borrow a sum of Rs 15,000 from a friend, get chairs and rent a space to run his coaching institute. The first batch consisted of around 12-15 students.
