The legendary ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas passed away at the age of 72 on February 26 due to his prolonged illness. He was known for hits like “Chitthi Aayi Hai” and “Chandi Jaisa Rang.” Udhas was awarded the Padma Shri for his incredible contribution to the Indian music industry and Hindi cinema.
Pankaj Udhas passed away at around 11 a.m. at the Breach Candy Hospital on Monday. His daughter, Nayaab Udhas, shared the news on Instagram. His last rites took place on February 27 at the Hindu Crematorium in Mumbai.
The legendary singer was known for contributing to the music industry and participating in social welfare and charity. One of his best-selling albums, namely, ‘Nabeel’, was auctioned and sold for 1 lakh rupees, and the money was donated to the Cancer Patients Aid Association. The team of Pankaj Udhas actively worked for the Parents Thalassemia Unit.
His ghazal “Aahat” brought him immense success. He also collaborated with Lata Mangeshkar on the hugely popular duet “Mahiya Teri Kasam” from the movie Ghayal. PM Modi, along with numerous other celebrities from the industry, mourned and wrote a heartfelt note for Pankaj Udhas.
Pankaj Udhas captivated listeners with his timeless songs and insightful lyrics, leaving an enduring influence on Indian culture through his humanitarian endeavours and contributions to the music industry.
