Mahesh Babu was fourth out of five siblings. His family originally belongs to Burripalem in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. But, Mahesh Babu spent most of his life in Madras with his maternal grandmother. His father, Krishna made sure that none of his children reveal his name in school. Actor Karthi was his schoolmate and actor Joseph Vijay was his collegemate.
Mahesh Babu debuted in the entertainment industry as a child artist in Needa (1979). He did a cameo role in that film, he was 4 years old at that time. He worked in 8 films as a child artist.
Rajakumarudu (1999) was his first film as the lead actor. He won Nandi Award for Best Male debut for this film. After that he gave many commercially successful films like Murari(2001), Okkadu(2003), Athadu(2005), Pokiri(2006), Dookudu(2011), Businessman(2012), Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu(2013), 1:Nenokkadine(2014), Srimanthudu(2015), Bharat Ane Nenu(2018), Maharshi(2019), Sarileru Neekevvaru(2020) and Sarkaru Vaari Paata(2022). Pokiri was the highest-grossing Telugu film while Sarileru Neekevvaru collected over ₹260 crores.
Mahesh Babu is also a humanitarian and philanthropist. He runs a charitable trust, Heal-a-child. He is also a goodwill ambassador of Rainbow Hospitals.
