Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu is all set to be a cricket commentator for IPL 2024. Two months ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu is back on his pitch-cricket commentary.
Star Sports announced in a post on X on Tuesday that Sidhu would be a commentator for the Indian Premier League (IPL), which will start on March 22. The official handle stated, “A wise man once said, “Hope is the biggest ‘tope.'” And this wise man, the great @sherryontopp himself, has joined our Incredible StarCast! Don’t miss his incredible commentary (and gajab one-liners) in #IPLOnStar—STARTS MAR 22, 6:30 PM onwards, LIVE on Star Sports Network!”
Former Punjab Congress president Sidhu was an MLA from Amritsar East, a one-time Rajya Sabha MP, and a three-time Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar. In the past, he served as a cabinet minister. Even though the Congress high command has not yet revealed the names of the party’s candidates for the 13 seats, Sidhu has clearly stated that he will not run in the next Lok Sabha elections. On June 1, Punjab will cast its votes in the Lok Sabha elections.
Navjot Singh Sidhu has been politically active by holding parallel demonstrations of strength in the state with a number of Congress leaders who have recently pledged allegiance to him. He does not share a stage in the programmes led by Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa.
It would be years after Sidhu’s departure from the cricket commentary world before he would return to it. Sidhu has worked in a variety of capacities outside of commentary, such as stand-up comedian and talk show host Kapil Sharma’s show and motivational speaker.
He turned to commentary and television, most notably as a judge of comedy shows and as a permanent guest on Comedy Nights with Kapil (2013–2015) and later The Kapil Sharma Show (2016–2019).
