Ranveer Singh Career
In 2010, Maneesh Sharma’s Band Baaja Baaraat was seeking a lead actor to star alongside Anushka Sharma and Singh auditioned for the part. Producer Aditya Chopra was highly impressed with his performance and cast him in the role of Bittoo Sharma. To ensure he embodied the character accurately, Singh spent time getting acquainted with students at the Delhi University campus so that he could play a typical Delhi boy.
Initially, film critics expressed their doubt about the commercial success of this movie. But it became a smash hit. Anupama Chopra at NDTV wrote about Singh’s performance — noting he was “pitch-perfect in the role of the uncouth but good-hearted small-town slacker”. Singh earned the Best Male Debut for the film at the annual Filmfare Awards 2011.
After Band Baaja Baaraat, Singh was cast in the romantic comedy Ladies vs Ricky Bahl. It was directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Chopra. The story revolved around a con man named Ricky Bahl who has met his match in Anushka Sharma’s character. This role required Singh to portray various aspects of his character; from being upbeat and entertaining to sinister when needed. Commercially, the movie saw moderate success.
