Vikrant Massey’s upcoming film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ teaser was revealed on Saturday. The film also stars Rashi Khanna and Riddhi Dogra in lead roles.
The film is based on the tragic accident that took place on the Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002, near the Godhra Railway station in Gujarat. Around 59 Hindu pilgrims who were returning from Ayodhya died in the fire inside the train.
Vikrant portrays the role of journalist Samar Kumar in the film. He joins a fellow reporter and a senior anchor, played by Raashi Khanna and Riddhi Dogra, respectively. While they covered the news of the incident, they found out that it wasn’t an accident but an attack on the pilgrims. The movie depicts the struggle these journalists face in proving their claims and how they deal with the attacks and inspections by their seniors.
The teaser provides a glimpse of the film and addresses the internal politics of the media organisations. It depicts the struggle of the journalists to prove the truth that the incident was actually an attack, not an accident. At the end of the teaser, Vikrant narrates a dialogue and says, “Haan mein hu Hindi wallah, aur mere jaise iss desh mein crore hai jo Hindi bolte hai. Toh ek din aisa aaega jab Hindi humare pehchan dubara banege aur tab India banega Bharat (I am a Hindi speaker like crores in the country. That day isn’t far when Hindi will become our identity, and then India will become Bharat).”
Vikrant Massey shared the teaser on Instagram and wrote, ”An event that shook the nation. Turned into an incident that changed Indian history forever. Presenting the #TheSabarmatiReport, in cinemas on 3rd May, 2024.” ‘The Sabarmati Report’ will be released on May 3, 2024. Ranjan Chandel directs the movie, and Ekta R Kapoor backs it.
